Dear friends and supporters of Transforming Tanzania:
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I am writing to you. The partnership that we have shared with our sisters and brothers in the Diocese of Mara-Ukerewe, Africa Inland Church-Tanzania, began in early 2001…25 years ago! From a new friendship with a young Tanzanian student attending Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, a partnership has emerged that could not have been conceived all those years ago.
This summer, the 24t annual Pastors’ Conference will be conducted with some 400 in attendance. This past January, 400 women leaders attended what is now an annual conference designed to encourage, train, and send gifted women back to their churches for ministry. Water projects have been completed. Health initiatives have been supported. Tens of thousands of church members have been strengthened, hundreds have come to faith in Christ, and hundreds of thousands of Tanzanians have been touched… by the grace of God and because of your support! None of this would have happened without you.
For the first time (I believe!) I am writing a fundraising letter’. I want to ask you for your support in any of the following ways:
- Word. We have said from the beginning that conferencing is the heart of this ministry. We now conduct two conferences each year. The budget for these conferences totals $90,000. While we are very encouraged by the support we continue to receive from foundations, churches, and individuals, we want to ensure that this important ministry continues. The Bible and the gospel of Jesus Christ are taught in light of issues and concerns identified by the diocese’s leadership. Pastors, wives, and other leaders tell us that these conferences are an oasis for them; that they keep them in ministry. We now have the opportunity to support two other dioceses in the AIC-T. We are exploring ways to help them. Need at present: Funding for conferences 2027 and 2028…Total need: $180,000. Received and commitments: $130,000; remaining need: $50,000.
- Water. The ministry of Jesus was (and continues to be!) a ministry of word and deed (see Luke 24:19 and Acts 2:42-47; 4:32-37). At present, 200 water projects have been completed: 198 in villages, one at the diocese Health Center, and one that serves a school with 1200 students. The goal has been and remains for every church in the diocese to have a water project as a ministry to its wider community. We do not know exactly how many have come to faith in Jesus because this very human need has been met, but we know that it is in the hundreds. Need: with 218 churches, funding is needed for 20 projects to meet the goal…$300,000.
- Wellness. Since 2018, donors have funded the completion of inpatient wards, pre- and post-natal wards, a small surgical theater, the purchase of two ambulances, the completion and furnishing of a two-theater surgical suite, and the purchase of a generator to ensure that power is always available. The great need at present is for funds to complete a radiology addition with X-ray and sonogram capabilities. In a community of 300,000 plus people, the only X-ray
capability is at the government hospital. Two generous donors have made significant gifts to meet this need. Need: $117,000…in hand $93,500…still needed $23,500.
